About the author

Aybüke Naz Durmuş

Aybüke is a PhD researcher at the University of Reading and a qualified barrister admitted to Ankara Bar Association in Türkiye.

Having studied both law and economics, Aybüke had her Master of Laws degree in private law particularly focusing on commercial law and an extended version of her thesis on capital loss and over-indebtedness in joint stock companies was published as a book in 2021.

In addition to her experience in practice at leading law firms and the Supreme Court of Türkiye, she also worked as an Associate Lecturer at the University Reading. Aybüke is continuing her PhD under the supervision of Professor Rob Merkin KC focusing on the insurer’s subrogation rights in marine insurance for which she received a scholarship from the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Education.

Her main research interests and publications focus on maritime law, marine and non-marine insurance law, and commercial law. Aybüke’s recent publications include a book chapter titled “The Intersection Between Law and Technology in Maritime Law” published in the edited book titled “The Regulation of Automated and Autonomous Transport” by Springer in 2023 and an article titled “Subrogation and Maritime Claims”, which she co-wrote with Prof. Rob Merkin KC, published in the September 2023 issue of the Singapore Academy of Law Journal.
